Meet the little animals

These animals come from Look Here: Baby Contrast’s early artwork collection. Their dark silhouettes sit on plain white paper, with a little space around each one.

Your newborn may notice the broad shapes before the tiny eyes or feet. The simpler geometric pack is another option to try together.

Print a sheet for your baby

Choose US Letter or A4 to match your paper. Print at 100% on white paper or printer-compatible cardstock, using normal or high quality.

Each card is 3¼ inches square, about 8.3 cm. Cut along the light outlines, smooth rough corners, and check that the dark areas printed clearly.

Say hello to the whale

Hold one card near your awake baby, about 8 to 12 inches from their face. “Hello, little whale.” They can enjoy your voice while they look.

Keep the picture still at first. When your baby turns away or gets fussy, save the other animals for another time.

For looking, with you nearby

Hold the cards for your baby and keep them out of their mouth. Put away any that become wet or torn, and keep scissors and scraps out of reach.

Leave cards out of the crib or bassinet. For tummy time, stay beside your awake baby and keep the card secure and out of reach.
